Big Horn Sheep leave Big Horns

Big Horn sheep are well adapted with strong legs and hooves that allow them to scamper across the rocky cliffs and narrow shelves within the Big Horn Canyon area that they call home.

Lovell awarded Business Ready Community grant
The Town of Lovell and the Lovell Inc. economic development organization received good news Thursday when the State Loan and Development Board approved a Business Ready Community grant to renovate the Lovell Business Incubator Facility, which also houses the Lovell Inc. offices.
Wyoming unemployment rate
Big Horn County’s unemployment rate crept up from 8.4 percent in November of 2009 to 8.8 percent in December of 2009, putting the county at slightly double the unemployment rate observed in December of 2008 at 4.3 percent.
Plaintiffs aim to uproot widely used beet seed
Opponents of genetically modified sugar beets have filed a request for a preliminary injunction last week in U.S. District Court for the Northern Division of California. If approved, the injunction could force farmers to return to planting traditional seeds in the future. The vast majority of U.S. farmers – about 95 percent – planted the seeds in question during 2009.
Meyer first out of the chute in GOP governor’s race

After announcing her bid for governor at rallies in Riverton, Casper and Cheyenne last Tuesday, Jan. 19, Wyoming State Auditor Rita Meyer made a whirlwind tour through Wyoming during the rest of the week, stopping in Lovell on a snowy Friday morning, Jan. 22.

Local Bighorn Sheep slated for Seminoes
On Jan. 14, the Wyoming Game & Fish Commission approved a capture operation to remove up to 12 bighorn sheep from the Devil’s Canyon area east of Lovell. The sheep will be used to supplement the December 2009 release of 20 bighorn sheep from Oregon into the Seminoe Mountains of Wyoming.
