Follies to feature ‘something for everyone’

Sounds of Music is the theme of the 2011 Mustang Follies, which will be staged next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, June 21-23, at the Hyart Theatre in Lovell.

The show promises something for everyone, from hip-hop to Broadway.

The evening begins each night with the Dollies of the Follies and the Mustang Band playing on the median strip in front of the Hyart at 7:30 p.m. The band is directed by Michael Montanez, and the dollies include Devan Fink, Angela Hitz, Stephanie Jolley, Nichole Mickelson, Amanda Norris and Sara Walker.

The follies begin at 8 p.m. with the presentation of the colors by local Eagle Scouts, followed by the singing of the National Anthem by three soloists on three nights: Megan Mangus Tuesday, Keli Morgan Wednesday and Courtney Tyacke Thursday.

Emcees this year are Devon Parks, Ben Snyder and Dane Mickelson, and organizer Kathy Brown said she’s not quite sure what to expect from the humorous trio.

First-half acts include the Lovell High School drum line, directed by Dane Mickelson, a medley of hip hop by the Dance Alumni – Kari Angell, Lacey Bassett, Morgan Croft, Samantha Durtsche, Tracey Foster, Brook Grant, Sara Green, Karren Mayes, Brittany Negro, Danielle Peck and Codee Trautman, the vocal solo “Popular” from the Broadway musical “Wicked” sung by Ashlee Aagard, the dance routine “Under the Big Top” performed by Tiana O’Tremba, the skit “My Friend Irma” performed by Melissa Iverson, the song “Get Along Lil’ Dogies” sung by Lovell Elementary School fourth-graders and a Beach Boys medley.

Just after intermission, the rodeo royalty will be introduced on Wednesay and the Pioneer Pageant royalty on Thursday, Brown said.

Second-half acts include the Dollies of the Follies, “Casanova Cowboy” sung by Nicole Gilmore and backed by Cassie Brost, Cassie Croft, Tracey Foster, Ricky Gilmore, Sara Green, Amanda Norris and Samantha Scheeler, “This is Halloween” performed by the Lovell Dance Academy Jazz III group: Maddie Crawford, Kaitlyn Grant, Whitney Grant, Madison Harper, Mya Meier and Kengra Price, a Snow White Medley sung by Amanda Aagard, Christine Aagard, Amber Brown, Jenny Brown and Shana Brown, the Bad Girls Prison Boot Camp act, “Zorro” sung by Rachel and Randy Carter, the act Billie Jean, and the Mustang Days Rockettes dancing to “One.” The Rockettes include Madison Baxendale, Melissa Ellis, Dani Englert, Charlyn Ferbrache, Katelyn Jewell, Ashton May, Tiana O’Tremba, Breya Price and Bekka Schroeder.

“The Rockettes have new outfits and they are awesome,” Brown said. “They’re quite flashy and they’re really pretty – red and silver.”

The program will end with a 9/11 tribute, which includes the Follies Choir, a poem purchased at the 9/11 Museum in New York City read by Linda Morrison and a PowerPoint presentation put together by Joe Bridges in honor of the 10th anniversary of the events of Sept. 11, 2001.

The audience will joing together to sing “God Bless America.”

“It’s lots of fun, but also serious and moving at times,” Brown said. “There are some good oleos.”

Tickets for reserved seating will be sold next Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lovell Area Chamber of Commerce office on Main Street. Tickets are $4 each.
