The Rocky Mountain Middle/High School cross country team enjoyed a cool afternoon for running at the Foster Gulch Golf Course as they hosted the annual Rocky Mountain Invitational Monday afternoon.
In the boys race, two Rocky Mountain runners placed in the top 10: junior Michael Bernhisel sixth with a time of 18:28 and sophomore Nate Davidson seventh at 18:33. Freshman Casey Banks just missed the top 10, finishing 11th with a time of 19:07.
Rounding out the top 20 were Lance Schatz, 13th with a time of 19:30; Jake Loyning, 15th at 19:44; and Jackson Stevens, 19th at 20:32. McKay Olson ran the course in 22:26, Tanner Coleman in 22:51.
In the girls race, sisters Kelly and Cassy Vezain placed 13th and 15th, respectively, with times of 24:30 and 26:12.
Middle school boys and girls ran together, and Rocky’s top finisher was Josh McCracken, who placed 13th in the boys standings with a time of 13:08. Dalton Wardell was 15th at 13:24, Dominic Twomey 16th at 13:41.
Zariah Tolman was strong in the girls standings, placing sixth with a time of 13:22. Jill Davidson finished 18th at 16:33, Emily Doughty 20th at 17:04 and sister Katie Doughty 21st at 17:20.
The high school team traveled to the Lander Invitational last Thursday. Bernhisel was the top finisher for the boys in the varsity division, placing sixth with a time of 19:13.12. Davidson placed eighth at 19:19, Schatz 16th at 20:54.
In the junior varsity race, Banks placed fourth with a time of 20:27, Loyning sixth at 20:55, Stevens 12th at 21:49 and Coleman 22nd at 24:01.
Kelly Vezain won the JV girls race with a time of 26:08, and Cassy was second at 28:01.
The RMMS/HS team will be off to Thermopolis today (Thursday) for the Bobcat Invitational. Running is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at the Legion Golf Course.
