Feb. 21, 1929 –Oct. 28, 2011
Patricia Henry, 82, died Oct. 28, 2011, at the Wyoming Medical Center following a short illness.
She was born Feb. 21, 1929, to Hugo and Jessie Janssen in Lovell, where she also graduated from Lovell High School in May 1947. Pat went on to graduate from the University of Wyoming in May 1951. While at the university she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority, and the Phi Theta Kappa and Mortar Board honoraries. Upon graduation, Pat was married in Lovell to William Henry Jr.
Pat and Bill lived in Casper, and at the family ranch north of Douglas their entire lives. Pat loved the family ranch and everything about the outdoors, most especially hunting, fishing and gardening. For years she organized the Henry Family fishing/camping trip to Fox Creek and Cooke City, Mont., her childhood playground.
Pat’s second passion was education, especially reading. She worked enthusiastically for many years as a reading specialist at Paradise Valley School before retiring. Upon retirement, Pat continued to work in the International Reading Association and local and state reading associations, as well as helping with the “Wyoming Reads” program. She passionately wished for every child to have a book of his/her own, going so far as to give books at Halloween rather than candy. Her dedication to education also made her a precious advocate to Casper College, and specifically the Agriculture Department, which husband Bill founded.
Pat also worked as a member of the Central Wyoming Counseling Center Board, a position that she held for 40 years. Her dedication and generosity are admirable. Pat also enjoyed membership in Chapter Y PEO, and was a longtime member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her children: Barbara Leininger (Zane), Robert Henry (Theresa) and daughter-in-law Susan Henry; her sister Jacgue Hurd (Lee); grandchildren Laurel Brown, Garrett Henry, Blake Henry, Andrea Leininger, Zach Leininger, Christopher Henry and Kala Henry. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill and son Mike.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date so all family members may share in the remembrance. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Casper College Henry Family Ag/Rodeo Scholarship Fund, Casper College Foundation Office, 125 College Dr., Casper, WY 82601. Condolences for the family may be sent to 1320 Nottingham Dr., Casper, WY 82609.
