Verna Lee Puentes, age 93, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at North Big Horn Hospital in Lovell.
Verna was born in Creal Springs, Ill., on May 23, 1918, to Leroy and Tessie Jane Holmes. She had one brother and nine sisters. She was married 37 years to Floyd Hazel and 33 years to her second husband, Mike Puentes. All of them have preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Judy (Greg) Johnson of Lovell, and Dean (Linda) Hazel of Bullhead City, Ariz., four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Verna was a longtime resident of Willow Valley, Ariz., and enjoyed visits from her family and friends. She lived close to Laughlin, Nev., so the casinos were a pastime for fun entertainment. During her younger years she volunteered as a teacher’s aide, served on the PTA and was a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed helping children to learn. She loved to sew, crochet, knit and dance. She moved to Wyoming in 2008 to live with Judy and Greg.
A private service will be held by the family with interment at the Needles Riverview Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell and Dimond and Sons Mortuary in Bullhead City, Ariz.
