Lois M. Schatz, 88, died at North Big Horn Hospital on May 13, 2012. Lois was born at Kane to Jesse and Grace Keele Gifford on Nov. 28, 1923. She was educated in the Big Horn Basin area. She worked at various jobs throughout her lifetime. Her last job before retiring was in the lab at the Western Sugar factory in Lovell.
Lois lived at Crystal Creek, Kane and in the Lovell area all of her life. She married Chris R. Schatz Sr. in Red Lodge. She and Chris farmed and ranched all of their lives.
Chris and Lois had four surviving children: Art (Judy) Schatz, Chris (Lynda) Schatz Jr., Gene Schatz and Grace (Roger) Lowry. They also had 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great- granddaughters. She is survived by one brother Rex (Althea) Gifford of Cascade, Mont.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chris Sr.; her brothers, Art, Andy and Jess Gifford; sisters Bertha Brems and Mabel Nicholls; one son-in-law and one grandson.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Sunday, May 20, at Haskell Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 21, at 10 a.m. at the Lovell LDS Chapel. Burial will be in the Lovell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to a charity of your choice.
