The speaker series for Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area has been finalized for this weekend.
This Thursday, July 5, Adam Shreading will be talking about Peregrine falcons. He will cover the natural history and characteristics of the falcons and will also cover the decline of the species due to DDT, reintroduction efforts and the tagging and study of the Big Horn Canyon populations. Next week, July 12, Judson Finley will be talking about archaeology at Big Horn Canyon and the work of the Archeology Field School.
Park staff members invite the public to join researchers and special speakers at the Cal S. Taggart Bighorn Canyon NRA Visitor Center in Lovell every Thursday at 7 p.m. through the middle of August.
On Friday and Saturday evening, visitors can attend one of the following campground presentations:
• Friday, July 6: Plants of Big Horn Canyon, Horseshoe Bend Campground loop B Amphitheater, 8 p.m., Ranger Steven Segala;
• Saturday, July 7: The Fur Trade, Horseshoe Bend Campground loop B Amphitheater, 8 p.m., Ranger Shawn Williams;
• Saturday, July 7: Walks A Heap: The Story of the Fort Smith Soldiers, Afterbay Campground Amphitheater, 9 p.m., Ranger John Abshire. In addition, Ranger Abshire will conduct a living history presentation throughout the weekend at the South Afterbay Campground.
