Health fair blood draws begin Saturday

The Lovell Community Health Fair is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 29, from 9 a.m. to noon and will be held at the Lovell Community Center. Diverse participation is expected from providers of health and social services, health management and health education, according to North Big Horn Hospital organizers.

A popular component of the health fair is the annual blood draw. Community members can receive certain blood tests at prices significantly lower than are ordinarily paid.

Kristi Schneider draws blood from Dennis Woodward at last year’s Health Fair.

The blood draws are scheduled this year for Saturday, Sept. 8, and then Monday, Sept. 10, through the next Saturday, Sept. 15. The times for the blood draws are 7-10 a.m. each day. The blood draws are held at New Horizons Care Center Multi Purpose Room.

The prices for the lab tests are:

Blood chemistry, $30. (Requires fasting for 12 hours unless diabetic; water and medications may be taken as usual.)

Hemogram (CBC), $15.

PSA for men, $30.

Hemoglobin A1C, $25.

Ferritin, $20.

Colorectal kit, $10.

The Health Fair is a great opportunity for a person to have his or her health status checked and to be able to review lab results with a health care provider. At the health fair, medical providers from North Big Horn Hospital will be available to discuss lab results and to briefly explain questions a person may have.

The community health fair is sponsored jointly by Wyoming Health Fairs and North Big Horn Hospital.
