Lovell girls set their sights on Regionals

With the conference season rolling to a close, the Lovell Lady Bulldogs are building strength and already thinking about the upcoming Regional Tournament. The girls beat Riverside at home on Friday 25-17 and 25-17 in the first two games. Riverside rose up strong and won the third game 25-17. The Lady Bulldogs answered in the fourth game with a 25-8 win, walking away from the contest with yet another conference win on their record.

“As conference is coming to an end, we need to be playing the best volleyball we have been playing all season,” said Coach Stormy Jameson. “Riverside is a solid team and has the potential to beat strong opponents. Emilee (Reasch) had a very strong performance all the way around and I thought this was as strong as Megan (McClure) has been all season.”

Chelsey Ellis and Shyann Wilske cover hitter Lauren Hinckley as she attacks in a game with Riverside on Friday, Oct. 5 in Lovell.

Chelsey Ellis had nine kills, 10 digs, four blocks and served 100 percent. Reasch had 16 kills, four blocks and 19 digs. Charri McArthur had nine digs. Lauren Hinckley had four kills and five digs. Maddie Baxendale had two kills, three assists and one dig. Megan McClure had three kills, 28 assists, 11 digs and three aces. Mercedes Haney had two kills, four digs and one ace. Shyann Wilske had one kill and 25 digs.

Up next: The girls host Greybull on Friday night with games at times at 4, 5 and 6 p.m. On Saturday they will host Shoshoni with game times at noon, 1 and 2 p.m.

“Greybull beat Thermopolis last week, who was at the top of the conference standings, so we will need to bring our A game to round out conference,” said Jameson. “Then we finish up our regular season schedule with long-time foe, Shoshoni.

“Shoshoni is probably going to finish their conference undefeated and be the number one seed from that side of our regional bracket. So, it is a good opportunity to see where we match up going into the final tournaments against the other conference’s top team.”

Jameson expects senior night to be full of emotions for the girls, as it will be their last time to play volleyball in the Johnny Winterholler Gymnasium.

“This group of seniors have led this team all year long and are setting great examples to those following in their footsteps,” said Jameson.

The Regional Tournament will be held in Lander on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19-20.
