Mrs. Virginia I. Oakley, 89, of Port Huron, Mich., formerly of Frannie, died on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, in Mercy Hospital.
She was born Feb. 10, 1923, in Port Huron. She married Arthur F. Oakley on Sept. 19, 1942, in Bowling Green, Va. He died April 30, 2005.
Mrs. Oakley retired from Prestolite with 45 years of service in the Coil Division. She had also worked at J.C. Penney’s and served as secretary of Wadhams Baptist Church, where she was an active member and Sunday school teacher. She hosted many Child Evangelism Fellowship events at her home and was a member of the Council on Aging. She dearly loved her flower garden and enjoyed travel, wintering in Florida and spending summers in Wyoming for several years.
She is survived by three children, Terry L. (Stephen) Fischer and Larry E. Oakley, of Port Huron Township and Michael (Brenda) Oakley of Jeddo; her beloved grandchildren, Kim (Tim) Hudy, Shellie Fischer, Julie Delaney, Lisa Scheunmann, Holly (Fred) Beaudry and Jason (Lori Solgot) Oakley; and six great-grandchildren, Austin Delaney, Whitney Hudy, Nathan, Nicole and Adam Beaudry and Koda Oakley.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, in Wadhams Baptist Church, Port Huron.
