Vezain riding high in pro rodeo circuit

JR Vezain of Cowley is on his way home with a pocket full of cash and the Canadian Bareback Championship title after competing in the Canadian Finals Rodeo Nov. 7-11 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

The 20-year-old bareback rider is quickly proving himself to be a noteworthy competitor on the U.S. professional rodeo circuit, as well, and is currently ranked fourth in bareback in the PRCA world standings.

Participants are ranked based on earnings. Vezain has earned $112,337 so far in the PRCA circuit and $68,492 in the Canadian rodeo.

As an amateur he was the National High School bareback riding champion in 2009 and was the College National Finals Rodeo all-around champion in 2011. He joined the professional circuit in 2011.

Vezain will compete in the PRCA National Finals Rodeo Dec. 6-15 in Las Vegas.
