Sept. 7, 1952 – Dec. 21, 2012
Carrol Irene Allred died on Dec. 21, 2012, in Billings after a long battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 7, 1952, in Lovell to Denver and Hannah Mayes. She was the first of three children, which included her brother Neil and sister Mona.
She grew up in Lovell and attended Lovell schools, graduating in 1970. She attended Ricks College for two years and Brigham Young University for three years, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in clothing and textiles.
She married her high school sweetheart Ed Allred in January of 1978, and they were sealed in the Manti, Utah, Temple in 1979. She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many positions in Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society, where she made many lasting friendships.
Her father and her uncle Deloy started up Mayes Fabrics. She began working there and later became the owner. She worked hard and developed her talent for sewing. She put a lot of miles of thread through several sewing machines making clothing and other gifts for her family and friends. She later became interested in quilting and spent many years creating quilts that were beautiful and well made. She was a perfectionist and would not allow a flaw or mistake to occupy one of her projects. She spent much time picking out threads and re-sewing until a project was acceptable. Working in the fabric shop she developed many friendships and loved to spend time making her own quilts and sharing things she had learned with others.
In August of 1983, Carrol and Ed welcomed their daughter Kristin into the world. Carrol loved sewing dresses and outfits for her. On May 29, 1988, they welcomed their son Steven. She enjoyed making outfits for him as well, turning him into a cowboy one day and a soldier or fireman the next. Family was everything to her and she always made sure her home was a place where her children could feel safe, welcome and comfortable.
Carrol loved going places with her family. She spent a lot of time camping in the mountains where she secretly hoped to retire someday. She was always willing to get up and take a last minute trip to anywhere, whether it was Billings or Yellowstone. She loved taking her grandchildren to the park to have picnics, where they would make up games that they would play for hours. She loved listening to Yanni, and every chance she got, would go to his concerts.
Carrol is survived by her husband Ed, daughter Kristin (Seth) Owens, son Steven and his fiance’ Kate Abbene and grandchildren Kallie, Kennadee, Kaydree and Kannon Owens, all of Lovell. She is also survived by her mother Hannah Mayes and brother Neil (Lesa) Mayes, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Mona and father Denver.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at the Lovell Wyoming Stake Center.
