F. Evan Morrison
F. Evan Morrison

He was born on Sept. 17, 1934, in Lovell, the oldest child of Francis Elggren and Cleopatra Mickelson Morrison. He attended schools in Lovell, where he lettered in football and track and was an all-state basketball team member.

After graduation from high school in 1952, he received a basketball scholarship to Utah State Agricultural College, where he played for about two years. He then transferred to Northwest Community College in Powell, where he played both football and basketball. Then in 1955, he was called to serve a mission to New Zealand for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Following his mission he attended Brigham Young University, graduating with a degree in accounting in 1961. During that last year of college, he met his sweetheart, an Arizona girl, Kay Gardner. They were married in September of that year in the Mesa Arizona Temple.

Evan and Kay made their home in Worland, where he joined his father’s accounting practice. He later earned his C.P.A. and assumed the Worland and Greybull offices when his father retired. He served in the Army National Guard for many years, and was later appointed Battery Commander in Worland.

He served in many callings in the church including scoutmaster, bishop, stake clerk and patriarch. He and Kay served as ordinance workers in the Billings, Mont., temple for two years. After retiring in 2003, he and Kay served a mission in Nauvoo, Ill., for 18 months, which was a highlight in their life.

They moved to Rexburg in 2007 when Evan’s health declined.

Evan always grew a large garden, loved running (when he had good knees), then biking, and walking with his wife. He also loved hunting and fishing, spotting wildlife near the family cabin in the Big Horn Mountains, serving people, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Kay, of Rexburg; daughters Cheryl Larson (Brian) of Soldotna, Alaska, and Patti Lehman (Mike) of Rexburg; sons Derek (Kristy) of St. David, Ariz., David (Amy) of Artesia, N.M., and Greg (Christina) of N. Salt Lake City, Utah; 21 grandchildren; brothers Ron Morrison (Beverly) of Lovell, Doug Morrison (Susan) of Orem, Utah, and Richard Morrison and Bruce Morrison (Linda), both of Lovell; sisters Beverly Thomas (Darwin) of Spanish Fork, Utah, Ann Kropf (Allen) of Clovis, Calif., and Sue Borders (Garry) of Spokane, Wash.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter, Calli Lehman, and his grandson Ethan Larson.

A viewing was held at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg on Sunday, Dec. 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. and funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, with visitation from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the Rexburg Stake Center. Interment was in the Sutton Cemetery.
