Ruth Tucker Tippets

Feb. 12, 1924 – Feb.12, 2013

Ruth Tucker Tippets, 89, of Cowley, died on Tuesday, Feb.12, 2013, at New Horizons Care Center in Lovell.

Born on Feb. 12, 1924, in Cowley, Ruth was the daughter of James and Ella Rebecca Tucker. She lived most of her young life in Cowley, where she graduated from high school. After a brief time at the University of Wyoming she returned home to care for her ailing parents.

Ruth traveled to California to marry Eugene Lyman Tippets, also of Cowley, as soon as he was discharged from the Navy. They wed on Feb. 12, 1946. Returning to Wyoming, they started their family. Soon after the birth of their first child, Ruth and Gene made their home in Billings, where the rest of their seven children were born and raised.

Later, with sons Ron and Scott, they moved to Colstrip, Mont., for the years that Gene was with Montana Power. They retired and moved back to Cowley, where they lived among family and friends for many years.

Ruth was active in the LDS Church throughout her life and held many callings. In 1990, she and Gene were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple.

Always, she devoted herself to her family. Ruth was a wonderful cook, making everything from scratch. Her pantry was always full of home-canned fruits, vegetables and meats. She sewed beautifully, often working late into the night to finish a piece for one of her kids to wear the next day. While in Colstrip, Ruth took painting lessons and to her delight discovered a talent for painting.

She was preceded in death by her son Scott and husband; two sisters, Viola and Edna, and her brothers Osmer and Bert Eugene.

She is survived by her sister Leta Doerr Brown, of Lovell, and six children and their families: Susan (Rodger) Hagel, of Billings, Jeanne (Richard) Thielmann, of Cowley, Eileen (Jim) Sennett, of Lewistown, Mont., Layne (Terri) Tippets of Menlo Park, Calif., Jim, of Billings, and Ron, of Lovell. Ruth and Gene have 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Another great-grandchild is expected in August.

The funeral service for Ruth was held on Feb. 16, 2013, in the LDS Chapel in Cowley. She was buried next to Eugene in the Cowley Cemetery.

She will be missed greatly by those who love her.
