Local churches celebrate Easter

Christians in north Big Horn County will celebrate the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ this weekend and next week with a variety of Holy Week services, culminating with Easter next Sunday, March 31.

The following churches will celebrate:

St. John’s Lutheran Church – Rev. Christopher Brandt said St. John’s will hold a palm processional during Palm Sunday services this Sunday at 10:30 a.m., and he will lead a Maundy Thursday communion service Thursday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m., then a Good Friday Tenebrae service at noon on March 29. A Saturday evening vigil service will be held March 30 at 7 p.m. Easter Sunday will feature a sunrise service at 7 a.m. at the church, followed by breakfast around 8, with the regular Easter Sunday service held at 10:30 a.m., including communion.

United Methodist Church – The Lovell/Deaver United Methodist Church will celebrate Palm Sunday this Sunday with services at 8:30 a.m. in Deaver and 10:30 in Lovell. A Maundy Thursday service will be held in Deaver at 7 p.m. on March 28, and Pastor Paula Morse will lead a Good Friday service March 29 at 6:30 p.m. in Lovell. Easter morning will dawn with a sunrise service at 6:45 a.m. at the Deaver Cemetery, followed by breakfast at the Lovell church at 9 a.m. The regular Easter service will be held at 10:30 a.m. in Lovell.

Bible Church – The Lovell Bible Church will perform an Easter Cantata for Palm Sunday this Sunday at 9 a.m. The cantata, entitled “It is Finished,” is directed by Nancey Blair and is narrated by Pastor Kurt McNabb. The cantata features solos by Amy Jasso, Jim Upton and Dr. Jason Hoffman, as well as a duet by Teressa Ennis and Pastor McNabb. Tanea Ennis will perform a flute solo accompanied by Teressa Ennis.

An Easter Sunday service will be held the following Sunday at 9 a.m.

St. Joseph’s Catholic Church – Father Glenn Whewell will celebrate a Palm Sunday Mass this Sunday at 11:30 a.m. and a Good Friday Mass March 29 at 3 p.m. preceded by Stations of the Cross at 2:15 p.m. at the church. Easter Mass will be celebrated March 31 at 11:30 a.m.

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Members of North Big Horn County’s eight wards will gather for the stake conference to be held at the Lovell Stake Center at 7 p.m. Saturday for all adults in the East Chapel, continuing Sunday for all members Sunday at 10 a.m. in the East Chapel and Cultural Hall.

Easter Sunday will include the following sacrament meetings: Lovell 1st at 8 a.m., Lovell 2nd at 9:45 a.m., Lovell 3rd at 11:30 a.m., Lovell 4th at 1:15 p.m., Lovell 5th at 3 p.m., Cowley 1st at 9 a.m., Cowley 2nd at 11 a.m. and Byron at 9:30 a.m.

The General Conference will be held in Salt Lake City on April 6-7.

Assembly of God – Pastor Dan Jarvis will celebrate Palm Sunday and Easter at regular times each Sunday: Sunday school at 9:45 a.m., worship service and children’s church at 10:50 and an evening service at 6:30 p.m.

Faith Southern Baptist Church – Pastor Michael McKnight could not be reached for information this week, but regular services are scheduled as follows: Sunday school at 9:45 a.m., morning worship at 11 a.m. and evening worship at 6 p.m.
