Elsie D. Leach

July 8, 1924 – April 24, 2013

Novato, Calif. – Elsie D. Leach died April 24, 2013, at the age of 88.

Elsie was born on July 8, 1924, in Tacoma, Wash., to Fred Ungefug and Elizabeth “Betty” Winterholler. Elsie was married to Albert L. Leach on June 6, 1946, in Lovell. Al was a World War II veteran and Bataan Death March survivor. Elsie and Al continued their journey together in the U.S. Air Force until Al retired at Hamilton AFB in 1959. They were part of the “Greatest Generation” raising their sons in Novato and managing the Indian Valley Golf Course from 1959-1974.

Elsie’s strong German ancestry made her a very independent woman and was the matriarch of the Leach family. Elsie enjoyed playing golf, travelling and spending time with her family, and she always enjoyed an opportunity to sing and dance. She was a member and an usher at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Elsie was preceded in death by her husband Al and parents Fred and Betty. She is survived by her sons Ray (Patti) of San Rafael, Terry (Diana) of Novato and Mike (Jill) of Pebble Beach; grandchildren Chenoa, Olivia, Joe, Terry, Danielle, Amy, Michael, April and Jason and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be alongside her husband Al at the Presidio of San Francisco National Cemetery on Friday, May 31, at 11 a.m.
