N.J. ‘Nick’ Sayles

Jan. 3, 1940 – April 26, 2013

Nick J. Sayles, 73, died April 26, 2013, at North Big Horn Hospital after a short illness.

Nick joined the Navy in 1957, proudly serving his country for 13 years as a submariner in the Pacific Fleet.

After the Navy, Nick came to Montana and started his life in the oil fields. He made his home in Lovell for more than 40 years and continued his passion for the oil fields, spending much time in Texas as a directional driller and as a consultant. He always returned to Lovell and the mountains he loved.

His greatest joy was sharing his knowledge of life with Brandon, Brock and Shanna Rae Jolley. He considered them to be his grandchildren, teaching them how to drive “Old Blue” and spending many hours fishing on the riverbank.

Nick never met a stranger. He had many friends and touched many lives. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Nick considered these survivors his family: Bruce and Cheryl Jolley, Brandon and Stephanie Jolley and children Chevelle and Cove, Brock and Alisha Jolley and son Zander, Shanna Rae Jolley, Sally Wilson, fishing buddy and good friend Bill Baxendale and too many others to mention.

Graveside services with military honors will be Friday, May 3, at 11 a.m. at the Lovell Cemetery. Cremation has taken place.

Haskell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

  1. We all look forward to when Revelation 21:4 is fulfilled.
“And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

  2. Nick – I will miss you my friend. Nick was a great friend that could be counted on thick and thin. I will miss his sense of humor and his kind big heart. Nick, you served well. Heidi
