The annual spring opening of U.S. 14A east of Lovell is scheduled for noon, Monday, May 20.
“We’ve got a few rocks to remove from the roadway, guardrail to fix and equipment to move,” said Jim Thomas, Wyoming Department of Transportation maintenance foreman in Lovell.
Thomas said WYDOT maintenance crews encountered snow depths of two to four feet, including snowdrifts of up to eight feet deep, during the annual spring plowing effort of U.S. 14A.
The annual winter closure of U.S. 14A, west of Burgess Junction, remains in effect at milepost 76.04 on the Lovell side of the Big Horn Mountains. The seasonal road closure at Burgess Junction is just east of milepost 98.1.
WYDOT annually closes this 22-mile stretch of scenic mountain road in the Big Horn Mountains of north-central Wyoming about Nov. 30 at the conclusion of the fall hunting season. It usually opens by Memorial Day weekend.
