The Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area will present a summer speakers’ series again in 2013. The presentations will take place at the Cal S. Taggart Lovell Visitor Center at 7 p.m. The dates for the presentations include:
•Thursday, June 13: Kim Barhaug will be give a presentation on the Heart Mountain Relocation Camp and show a movie about the camp.
•Thursday, July 11: Chris Finley will give a presentation on the archeology of the Big Horn Canyon area. Finley worked as an archeologist for the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area before retiring in 2012.
•Thursday, July 25: Emily Boyd and Dani Techentin will give a presentation on the bighorn sheep inside the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area. Boyd and Techentin are both graduate students from the University of Arkansas-Monticello performing research on the bighorn sheep.
Evening campfire programs also begin this week at the Horseshoe Bend amphitheater.
This Saturday, June 15, Ranger Danielle Peck will present “Stories of the Big Horn Canyon” at 8:30 p.m.
On Saturday, June 22, Ranger John Kissner will present “Listen to the Legend of Big Metal” at 8 p.m.
On Friday, June 28, Ranger Shawn Williams will tell about the mountain men and the fur trade at 8 p.m.
