Melba LaRue Green Bridges, 97, died on Sunday, June 30, 2013, at New Horizons Care Center in Lovell.
She was born on Jan. 6, 1916, in Riverton, Utah, to Joseph Goodliffe and Carrie Marie Bills Green. She married Octave Lynn Bridges on Oct. 19, 1938, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
She worked part-time at Peterson’s Market until her husband’s death, when she began working full-time. She made many friends by working at the store for those years.
Upon her retirement, she served at the Jordan River LDS Temple for 18 years. She had a love for the community and people of Riverton, where she was born and lived until recent years. The community named her as honored citizen in 1986. Melba loved music and hummed a tune as she walked quickly wherever she went. She loved her family and was devoted to them as their matriarch and was the hub of the Green family. She had a tender loving heart and loved to laugh and have fun.
She was preceded in death by her husband Octave Lynn; daughter Lynette Brinkerhoff; brothers Afton, Charles, Weston, Glen, Lowell, Eldred and Newell Green; and sisters Vilda Harrison, Myrl Morgan and Rayola Wardel.
She is survived by her sons ElRay (Ann) Bridges of Cowley, Sheldon (Bonnie) Bridges of Bluffdale, Utah; son-in-law Randy (Gayla) Brinkerhoff of Leeds, England Mission; 14 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 32 great-great-grandchildren; brother Clifton N. (Joyce) Green of Riverton, Utah; brother-in-law LaCoy Wardle of South Jordan, Utah; sisters-in-law Lavella Green, Murray, Utah, and Vila Harmon, Dallas; and many nieces and nephews who were dear to her heart, as she was dear to theirs.
Services will be held Saturday, July 6, at 11 a.m. at the Riverton, Utah, LDS Stake Center, 13400 South 1850 West. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral arrangements are by Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell and Broomhead Funeral Home in Riverton. Interment will be at Riverton Cemetery.
