Sept. 18, 1927 – Dec. 10, 2013
Mary Hemstreet was born Mary Jean Dover on Sept. 18, 1927, in her home in Lovell. She was the daughter of George and Norma Dover, and she attended Lovell grade school and high school.
She met her husband, Bob Hemstreet, at a dance in Jantzen Beach, Ore., on Jan. 19, 1946. They were married one year later to the day and remained married for 64 years until Bob preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 2011.
After their marriage Mary worked with her husband in their building business. Bob and Mary enjoyed traveling to Alaska and numerous other places. In 1950 Bob and Mary had their first daughter, Billie Jean or “Jeani.”
In 1951 Bob and Mary were in a serious automobile accident in which Bob was injured. Mary took over and ran their business, and took care of Bob and their baby. Their second daughter, Jodie Lee, was born in 1955. At this time they were purchasing their Sheridan, Ore., farm (from 1955-1958). Their son, Jon Dover, was born in 1965.
Mary worked hard throughout the years with her husband building their business; she enjoyed Bible studies, attending church at St. Andrew’s in Portland and First Christian Church in Sheridan, attended numerous classes and enjoyed painting and traveling. Bob and Mary owned and operated a motel during semi-retirement from 1984-2003.
She died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, in McMinnville, Ore.
Mary is survived by her brother, Don Dover, three children, four granddaughters and two grandsons, one great-grandson and two great-granddaughters. She will always be remembered as a loving, faithful wife, a caring mother and grandmother, and a pillar of strength as Aunt Mary.
