Lovell High School junior Cole Moncur was honored as an All-State competitor at the 2014 WHAA State Speech and Debate Tournament held at Western Wyoming College in Rock Springs last week. LHS Speech and Debate team coach Deb Fink said it is the first time she can recall any speech and debate student from LHS making All-State.

The Wyoming High School Forensic Assoc. selects the top-scoring 20 students from each class. Moncur scored 788 points, which put him in 16th place in the 3A class.

This is Moncur’s third year as a member of the team. So far, he has performed a number of duets, dramatic interpretations, poetry readings and participated in extemporaneous speaking contests.

Moncur doesn’t shy away from unusual or dark subjects. He said he likes to try things that are different. He plans to continue as a member on the school’s speech and debate team in his senior year.
