Oct. 1, 1924 – May 12, 2014
Ivan E. Tippetts, of Lovell, died at North Big Horn Hospital on May 12, 2014. He was 89 years old.
Ivan was born in Lovell on Oct. 1, 1924, to Isaac H. Tippetts and Zelpha Johnson Tippetts. He grew up on a farm east of Lovell with his four brothers: Marion, Wilmer J. ‘Tuffy’, Leslie and younger brother Ted. He attended the Lovell schools.
In 1942, he married Melba Nicholls. Their marriage was later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on Nov. 22, 1997.
When he was first married, he farmed and ranched with his father and brothers. Later, his father, Isaac, bought the Lockhart Ranch in Dryhead, Mont., where many family memories were formed.
Ivan could fix anything. He loved tinkering in the shop and making specialty tools and repair parts and riding his favorite horse Banner. He also loved flying his airplane and he played the trumpet with the Jake Adolf Band and later with the Carroll Whalen Orchestra for many years.
Ivan is survived by his wife, Melba, of 72 years, and his children: Michele Corbett of Lovell, Julie Anne (Dave) Frost of Lovell, Leslie (Connie) of Lovell, Denys (Bob) Tippie of Sheridan, Rand (Anne) Tippetts of Lovell, Shawn (Pauline) Tippetts of Lovell, Casey (Deborah) Tippetts of Buffalo and Corey (Lori) Tippetts of Lovell; 24 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his four brothers (Marion, Wilmer J. ‘Tuffy”, Ted, Leslie and an infant brother Harold); two infant sisters (Irva May and Sylvia); one grandchild, Tracey Liggett and his son-in-law Jerry Corbett.
Viewing and family visitation will be at Haskell Funeral Home on Friday, May 16, from 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Lovell at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2014, with Bishop Steven McArthur conducting the service.
Burial will be at the Lovell Cemetery.
