Edward J. Regnier

Edward J. Regnier was born June 12, 1924, in Aurora, Kan., to Edward E. and Nelian Jones Regnier. He died on June 17, 2014, at North Big Horn Hospital; it was five days after his 90th birthday.

When Ed was 10, the family moved to Sheridan, and in 1941 moved to Lovell, where he graduated with the class of ‘42. Soon after the attack on Pearl Harbor, he joined the army and spent 18 months in the Philippines, New Guinea and the Admiralty Islands. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

He married Shirley Swords of Cody in 1946. To this union his son Larry was born. The couple later divorced. In 1951, Ed married Helen Doerr Hutton. With this marriage he gained a stepdaughter Linda, whom he loved as his very own. His daughter Kristi was born in 1956.

Ed worked for Lovell Transfer and also at Lovell Clay and in 1951 went to work for Marathon Oil Co., retiring after 31 years. He became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in 1953 and was a firm believer in his faith. He was proud of the positions he held as president of the congregation, Sunday school superintendent and as a trustee. He also accomplished many woodworking projects for the church.

Through the years, his favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, square-dancing, playing bridge, working puzzles, and, most of all, woodworking. He enjoyed the many exchange students the couple welcomed into their home.

He was especially close to Dr. Shigeru Hosoyama of Latham, N.Y., Andrea Bolton of Australia and Noriko Nemezawa and Urara Arata of Japan, who were like his own children. Their visits through the years meant so much to him.

He enjoyed the winters spent in Arizona and trips to Germany and Hawaii, and a Caribbean cruise.

Ed was diagnosed with encephalitis in 1959, which left him with epilepsy. In spite of his health concerns, he was able to live a good and useful life. He was very proud of his family and dearly loved each of them.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Helen; sister Vicky Puetz of Billings; son Larry Regnier of Shell and daughters Linda (Benny) Karlinsey of Willard, Utah, and Kristi (John Haustveit) Regnier of Meridian, Idaho; 10 grandchildren: Troy Karlinsey, Jay Karlinsey, Quinn Karlinsey, Monte Jo Larson, Cody Hone, Clint Karlinsey, Rick Regnier, John Regnier, Eric Regnier, and Kristine Isaak; 34 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lovell on Friday, June 27, at 11 a.m. A viewing will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.
