Beginning this Friday, Aug. 8, and running through Oct. 31, organizers of the Lovell Farmers’ Market are inviting the public to join the market vendors for Fridays at the Park.
Each week family friendly activities at Constitution Park in Lovell will feature a combination of food and fun designed to entertain and tickle the tastebuds.
Local farmers, growers and talented bakers gather on Friday afternoons at Constitution Park, where the Farmers’ Market is being held for the rest of this season. The market changed locations at the end of July to allow for additional activity and reduce congestion during the reconstruction of Main Street. However, if there is community support for the new Fridays at the Park then the Farmers’ Market will also consider permanently relocating to the park.
Organizers plan to keep locally grown foods at the center of activities, and there will be a “Featured Vegetable of the Week.” Community members are encouraged to showcase the designated vegetable in a dish prepared to share potluck style. The featured vegetable for August 8 is zucchini/summer squash. Citizens may bring baked goods or side dishes to the park to show and share starting at 4:30 pm. There are plans in place to have a meat dish option available each week, as well.
There will also be a bounce house set up for the kids, and at future markets, music and contests, pick-up basketball, cribbage and perhaps a pet parade will be offered. The final Friday of the season will feature a harvest event, with lighting of the pumpkins at dark. Organizers hope to hear from other groups who have a fun event to add to the activities.
