June Walker Wood, 89, formerly of Lovell, died Aug. 18, 2014, in Havre, Mont. She moved to Havre five years ago to be closer to her daughter Juliann Riggin.
June was born June 7, 1925, in Lovell, the daughter of Merl and Enola Thaxton Walker. She was the oldest of eight children. She spent her childhood years growing up on the family farm in Lovell. She married Fenton Clyde Wood on Oct. 28, 1942. Their marriage was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.
Fenton and June were blessed with eight children: Mary (Bryce) Orr of Alberta, Canada, Michael Walker Wood (deceased), Valerie Wurtz of Casper, Peggy Dedman of Billings, Janet (Randy) Pickinpaugh of Mesa, Ariz., Julie (Randy) Riggin of Havre, William (Susan) Wood of Gillette and Richard (Treeva) Wood of Rock Springs.
June was a talented artist and was instrumental in designing and working with multiple community members on the layout and completion of the murals seen in Lovell today. June was commissioned by many people to design and paint pictures on antique milk cans, saws and also canvas. She served in numerous positions in the LDS Church. She also served as an election judge for numerous years. In her later years, she spent countless hours making heirloom quilts, table runners, placemats and throws for her children and grandchildren.
June was preceded in death by her parents Merl and Enola Walker, her husband Fenton Clyde Wood, her son Michael Walker Wood, her brother Farrel Walker and her sister Eunice Wardell.
June is survived by her children along with her siblings Wayne Walker, Charla Asay, Bonnie Wardell, Dennis Walker and Dale Walker.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 23, at 10 a.m. at the LDS Stake Center in Lovell.
Burial was in the Lovell Cemetery. Haskell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.haskellfuneralhome.com.
