Maxine Asay Wambeke, 84, of Deaver, died on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at North Big Horn Hospital, in Lovell.
Maxine made her home in Deaver for the past 64 years. She was born Dec. 10, 1929, in Bonneville, Wyo., to Leon and Mary Hilda Asay. She was the fifth of 11 children. Maxine attended school in Spence, Thermopolis, Douglas and Deaver.
She met the love of her life, Frank Wambeke, at a community picnic on Pryor Mountain in 1944. They were married on May 28, 1947, in Billings. She loved her life as a farmer’s wife. She could drive a beet truck or a tractor, irrigate or chase cows, and work side by side with Frank. Maxine and Frank had five children.
Maxine is survived by her husband, Frank, and by her children Ivy Englert, Renee Gomendi (Chuck), Paul Wambeke (Troy), Mona Sorenson (Mark) and Jenny VanLake (Terry); 14 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, two sisters, two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 28, at 10 a.m., at the Cowley LDS Church. Viewing/visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 27, from 7-8 p.m. at Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell. Burial will be in the Deaver-Frannie Cemetery.
