Grizzly gridders defeat Tongue River and Lovell

The Rocky Mountain Middle School football squad defeated the Tongue River Eagles 52-18 Saturday in Cowley.

The Grizzlies scores came on runs of 36, 62 and 56 yards by Brenen Hinckley, a 68-yard run by Caden Welling, a 27-yard run by Travis Simmons, an eight-yard run by Tyler Banks and a 14-yard run by Trevor Jewell.

“We played the best we have this year on both sides of the ball,” coach Justin Moss said. “Our boys are learning to do their job and trust others to do theirs.”

Tuesday, the Grizz fell to their rivals, the Lovell Mustangs, 24-22, at Kevin P. Robertson Memorial Stadium. Rocky struck first in the first quarter on a Welling 32-yard run and then in the third quarter by Welling again on a 14-yard run. The Grizz found the end zone late in the fourth quarter on a Hinckley 19-yard run but could not convert the game-tying two-point conversion.

The seventh-graders tied with Lovell 14-14 with Rocky’s scores coming on runs of 37 and 87 yards by Zane Horrocks.

Rocky will finish up the season Saturday by traveling to Greybull to face the Buffs with kickoff scheduled to start at 10 a.m.


LMS seventh-graders defeat Burlington

The Lovell Middle School seventh-grade volleyball squad defeated the Burlington Lady Huskies 21-19, 21-11, 21-14 Thursday, Oct. 1, in Burlington.

“The girls worked hard last week in practice,” coach Kristin Warner said. “We really worked on basic volleyball skills and they showed improvement in Thursday’s game.”

The eighth grade A squad fell to the Lady Huskies 21-13, 21-10, 21-4. The B team also fell to Burlington 18-21, 21-14, 21-11.

The Mustangs will participate in their respective Yellowstone Conference Tournaments Saturday, as the seventh grade will travel to Cowley while the eighth grade will travel to Burlington.

The Lady Mustang seventh-grade team will face Greybull at 9 a.m. in Cowley. The LMS eighth-graders will face Rocky at 10 a.m. in Burlington.


RMMS sixth-grade netters consolation champs

The Rocky Mountain Middle School sixth-grade volleyball squad fell to Powell, then defeated Cloud Peak and Cody to win the consolation championship Saturday at the conference tournament in Worland.

The RMMS sixth-grade squad was coached by Leslie Mayes. No scores were available.

The Lady Grizzly eighth-grade B squad fell to Cody and Powell at their conference tournament in Powell, also on Saturday.

Saturday, RMMS will host the Yellowstone Conference Tournament for area seventh-grade squads, opening with the Worland Lady Braves at 9 a.m. The eighth grade will travel to Burlington for their conference tournament and face Lovell at 10 a.m., also on Saturday.
