Grizzly gridders fall to Cody Saturday

The Rocky Mountain Middle School football squads fell to a pair of Cody Cougar teams Saturday in Cowley.
The eighth-grade squad fell to Cody 38-30. It was a back and forth game and the Grizz did a good job moving the ball but came up short in the end.
The seventh-graders fell to the Cougars 22-8 with Rocky’s lone score coming on a 33-yard run by Cason James in the second quarter. The two-point conversion was good on a run by Bo Arnold.
The Grizz will host Tongue River Saturday for a 10 a.m. kickoff. Tuesday, Rocky will travel to Lovell to face the Mustangs at 4:15 p.m.
Lady Mustangs prep for conference play
The Lovell Middle School volleyball squads fell to Cloud Peak Thursday and to Rocky Saturday with the eighth-graders traveling to Cowley and the seventh-graders hosted the Lady Grizz.
Thursday, the LMS eighth grade fell to Cloud Peak 21-5, 21-15, 16-15 in Manderson. The B team also fell to the Lady Cougars 21-14, 21-12, 15-7.
Saturday, the eighth-graders fell to Rocky 21-9, 21-2, 15-10 in Cowley. The B team defeated the Lady Grizz 21-12, 10-21, 21-19 for the B team’s third win of the season.
The seventh-graders fell to Cloud Peak 21-16, 21-15, 15-11 in Manderson Thursday. The B team also fell to the Lady Cougars 10-21, 21-19, 21-16.
Saturday in Lovell, the Lady Mustangs fell to Rocky 21-9, 21-11, 15-12. The B team also fell to the Lady Grizz, 21-13, 18-21, 21-13.
The Lady Mustangs will travel to Burlington today (Thursday) to face the Lady Huskies at 4:15 p.m. The Yellowstone Conference Tournaments will be on Saturday, Oct. 10, with the seventh-grade tournament in Cowley and the eighth-grade tournament in Burlington.
Mustang gridders get first win of the season in Greybull
The Lovell Middle School football squads earned their first wins of the season Saturday in Greybull, and the sixth- and seventh-grade team faced Cody Tuesday in Cody.
Saturday, the eighth-graders defeated Greybull 38-36. Lovell’s scores came on Coy Trainor’s two 50-yard runs, his 23-yard run and two two-point conversions by Trainor, a nine-yard run by Thomas Hinckley plus a two-point conversion, a 25-yard run by Zack Yeaman and a two-point conversion and a two-point conversion by Killyan Lockner.
“Zeke Newman was 5-6 with two touchdowns and two two-point conversions with 130 passing and 37 yards rushing,” coach Michael Jameson said. “Our defense shut them out in the second half. Zane Hitz played phenomenal at a new position and was undersized. Cruz (Garcia) played a stout nose guard. Ezra Harlow, Lane Herman, Evan Toner and Myzek McArthur did a great job stepping up to the eighth-grade game.”
There was no eighth-grade game against Cody Tuesday due to a small number of eighth-graders.
The seventh-graders also defeated the Buffs 20-14 Saturday as Lovell scores came on a run by Bishop Trainor and two by Tyler Nichols plus a two-point conversion by Herman.
“Our kids played very well all around,” coach RJ May said. “They’re improving every week.”
The Mustangs fell to Cody 20-6 Tuesday in Cody.
“The kids are still playing hard and improving,” May said.
The Mustangs will host the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.
