May 30, 1937 – Dec. 25, 2015
Jerry G. Hettinger died with family by his side on Friday, Dec. 25, 2015. He was born on May 30, 1937, in Lovell to Jake and Sophie Hettinger. Jerry spent his early years there before moving to Byron, where he graduated from Byron High School in 1956.
Jerry served for three years in the U.S. Coast Guard, from where he was honorably discharged in 1963. He pursued his career in sales, working for Billings Trophy and Proctor and Gamble, from where he retired.
He married Shirley Blackford and from this union they had four children. They later divorced and in 1976 he married Joy Stock, his wife of 39 years, and together they had seven children.
Jerry was a kind and loving man who put everyone’s needs in front of his own and for the last several years he was an amazing caregiver to his wife Joy. They both enjoyed serving as ushers in the balcony at Faith Chapel Church, where they were blessed by many friends.
He had many passions, most notably golf and being with his golf buddies. Jerry took great pride in organizing the senior golf at Peter Yegen golf course. His other passions were skiing and fishing and being a Denver Bronco fan, along with watching his grandchildren play hockey and soccer.
He is survived by wife, Joy, son Mike Hettinger, daughter Kathy (Perry) Moore and their children Christine and Julianne, daughter Jan (Murray) Brumwell and their children Dana (Jennifer) and Dylan (Eric), son Mike (Rochelle) Stock and their children Michaela, Julia and Gabrielle, son James (Angelina) Stock and their children Skylar and Jaden, daughter Lana Hughes and her children Taylor and Rachelle, daughter Stacey (Mathew Barnes) Hettinger and two great-grandsons Brayden and Tucker. Jerry is also survived by sister-in-law Lillian Hettinger, sister Rose (Kent) Wolz, brothers Clyde (Dale) Harvey, David (Barbara) Harvey and Allen (Elaine) Harvey, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins that meant the world to him.
Jerry was preceded in death by father Jake and mother Sophie, stepfather Clyde Harvey and brother Richard Hettinger.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, at Faith Chapel Church. Guests are asked to use the Broadwater entrance. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Ganz and the nurses on Tower Three at St. Vincent Hospital.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Jerry’s name to Yegen Kids Golf Foundation at Peter Yegen Golf Course.
“Dad, Papa, we will miss your amazing smile and hugs. Hit ‘em long and straight!”
