Oct. 8, 1925 – May 21, 2016
Shirley Edgar Aagard was born on Oct. 8, 1925, in Burlington to James Edgar and Anona Jones Aagard. He was reunited with loved ones as he died peacefully on May 21, 2016, in Lovell.
He lived 90 years. Over the many years he experienced 68 years of marriage to Anna Ruth McNeal, who died last year in May. He had 10 children: Angela (Harold) Roth of Germany, Olaf (Susie) Aagard of Cody, Sherilee (Harvey) of Otto, Mary Ann (Daryl – deceased) Hickman of New Mexico, Janet (Paul) Axtell of Alabama, Linda – deceased (Carl) Link of Sheridan, Nancy Everson of Idaho, Pauline (Wayne) Parker of Burlington, Peter (Tami) Aagard of Idaho and Virginia (JD) Wilson of Idaho. He has more than 125 grandchildren and quite a few on the way.
Shirley loved serving in the temple and various church callings. He loved flying his plane, loved having a large strawberry patch and he loved to read, but most of all he loved his family.
Mobility and health issues in his last few years kept him confined.
He served in World War II and worked at the Nuremberg Trials. He also served during the Korean War.
Shirley worked many years as a mechanic for
John Deere and International Harvester and he dabbled in farming. He will be missed.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 28, at the Burlington LDS Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the Burlington Cemetery. Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell is in charge of arrangements.
