Billy ‘BJ’ Jiracek

Nov. 7, 1953 – April 13, 2019

Billy, Bill, BJ, Jake Jiracek was born Nov. 7, 1953, in Winner, S.D., to Charlie and Marilyn Hoy Jiracek. He was the baby of the family after two older sisters Sheryl and Carolyn. He died at the age of 65 on April 13 at his home after a year fight with brain cancer.

BILLY ‘BJ’ JIRACEK

He married Deb Ekroth on Nov. 15, 1975. To this union three children were born, Terry, Kevin and Stacie. He lived and worked in the Winner area until August 1980 when the family moved to Wyoming. He worked for Production Machine in Powell for a short while and then went to work for Miller’s Fabrication in Lovell for 11 years. He then worked for Western Sugar until his health forced him to retire early.

BJ loved to weld and make things out of wood. There was nothing he could not fix with his skills. He built many dressers, cabinets and cribbage boards. He was an avid cribbage player, bowler and fisherman. When he wasn’t working you could find him helping his friends, but with his big heart he was willing to help anyone in need. He would talk to everyone that he crossed paths with. He adored all the kids at Deb’s Daycare, but you could also find him hiding in his garage working on various things.

His greatest joy in life was being “Papa Bill” to grandchildren Stetson, Satyana and Sawyer. He also was happy when Kevin got married and added two more grandchildren to the mix, Payton and Harley. He was excited for retirement so he could take his grandkids to the park, watch them play sports and grow up.

BJ was preceded in death by his father Charlie Jiracek and step-mom Mildred, sister Sheryl and nephew Tommy.

He is survived by his mother Marilyn, wife Deb, sons Terry (Shasta) Jiracek and Kevin (Sheena) Jiracek, daughter Stacie (Shane) Warehime and grandchildren Stetson, Satyana, Sawyer, Payton and Harley. Also surviving is his sister Carolyn Foss and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial and celebration of life will be held April 27 at 1 p.m. at the Cowley Log Gym. The family hopes you will come and share your favorite stories of your time with Billy, Bill, BJ and Jake.

Memorial donations can be made in Bill’s name to Big Horn Basin Regional Cancer Center in Cody in lieu of flowers.
