Opponents of genetically modified sugar beets have filed a request for a preliminary injunction last week in U.S. District Court for the Northern Division of California. If approved, the injunction could force farmers to return to planting traditional seeds in the future. The vast majority of U.S. farmers – about 95 percent – planted the seeds in question during 2009.

On Jan. 14, the Wyoming Game & Fish Commission approved a capture operation to remove up to 12 bighorn sheep from the Devil’s Canyon area east of Lovell. The sheep will be used to supplement the December 2009 release of 20 bighorn sheep from Oregon into the Seminoe Mountains of Wyoming.

The Lovell Bulldogs started their busiest stretch of the ’09-10 season with a less-than-spectacular outing against the Cody Broncs Thursday night, then improved to defeat the Riverside Rebels in Basin Friday in a conference game and on Saturday played perhaps their best all-around game of the season to clobber the Tongue River Eagles.

It was a contrast in opponents for the Lovell Bulldogs over the weekend. On Friday, the Bulldogs played host to the 0-11 Shoshoni Wranglers, who have only seven players on their entire roster. The result? An easy 80-16 victory.
