Now she’s among the elite. With a pile of awards already on the mantel, Lovell’s Kristen Scheffler won two more over the weekend including the prestigious Milward Simpson Award as the outstanding high school female athlete in Wyoming, which was presented Saturday in Casper.

Lovell taxidermist Ray Messamer said it was a rare privilege to mount the record-setting bull elk harvested last fall by hunter Flint Flesher. Not only was the elk magnificent, but Flesher served in Iraq with Messamer’s son, Kevin.

After 41 years of teaching math to Lovell High School students, Carolyn Butters has finally turned in her keys. It might be interesting to figure out the total number of students she has taught in all those years. Miss Butters was teaching when I came to Lovell in 1968 and still teaching when I retired in 2003. That’s longevity!

Excellent weather has been the highlight of the Mustang Days celebration so far, with balmy and mostly calm weather greeting boaters and swimmers at Horseshoe Bend Saturday and even the Music in the Park event Monday night enjoying a calm, beautiful evening.

Work started Sunday on the North Big Horn Hospital SLIB remodel project with cosmetic upgrades to the main corridor of the hospital. The Board of Trustees heard an update about this and many other happenings during their regular monthly board meeting Thursday, June 17.

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Dept., Lovell Volunteer Fire Dept., North Big Horn ambulance and Lovell Police responded to a report of a one-vehicle accident Monday night off the Byron River Bridge that resulted in the hospitalization and DUI citation of one man.

After two tournament rainouts, cancelled games and rescheduled contests, the Lovell/North Big Horn Mustangs American Legion Baseball team finally played a solid weekend of baseball last Friday and Saturday, dropping a pair of games at Riverton but sweeping a double-header at home against Laramie.
