Miller, Dr. Carroll S., DDS

Funeral services for Carroll S. Miller will be held Thursday, Aug. 21 (today), at 1:30 p.m. at the Shell Community Hall with Rev. Jim Stumbo officiating. Carroll, 82, died Aug. 15.
He was born Jan. 6, 1926, in Aurora, Ill., the son of F. Herb and Anna K. Stordock Miller. He grew up in Aurora with his parents, his  brother Herbert and his sister Lois.
Carroll joined the U.S. Navy when he was 17 years old and entered the Navy’s dental program. After his honorable discharge he completed his dentistry education at the University of Illinois.
He married Carol in Aurora in 1950. The couple had three children, Robin, Mark and Susan. While practicing dentistry he was active in the community and his church. He also taught dentistry part time at the University of Illinois.
Carroll was an avid sportsman, a dog trainer and field trial hobbyist. He enjoyed introducing others to the sports of hunting and fishing.
In 1973 the Millers moved to Wyoming where he spent his time raising cattle and running a small ranch. He returned to practicing dentistry in the area and served as a Wyoming State Legislator for 16 years.
He continued his interests in the outdoors and took advantage of the recreational opportunities available. He also worked as a hunting guide and outfitter for a number of years.
After his retirement, he remained active in the community and church. He enjoyed gardening, walks in the mountains and bird hunting in the Dakotas, Canada and Wyoming.
His parents, his brother Harold and one grandchild preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; his daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Jim Treirwieler and Susan and Tom Jenkins; his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Sandra Miller; his sister, Lois, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A meal for family and friends will be held at the Shell Community Hall following the services. There will be a private family committal service.
Memorials in Carroll’s name are being accepted at Big Horn Federal Savings Bank, Box 471, Greybull, Wyo. 82426. Proceeds will go to the South Big Horn County Critical Access Hospital/Bonnie Bluejacket Memorial Nursing Home and to the Building Fund of The Shack.
