The public is invited to a dedication of the Wyoming Veterans Memorial Park and the unveiling of the State of Wyoming Korean War Memorial on Saturday, Sept. 6, in Cody.
The 10 a.m. ceremony will feature remarks by Gov. Dave Freudenthal and Ambassador Lee of the Republic of Korea.
The dedication will coincide with the annual reunion of the Wyoming National Guard’s 300th Armored Field Artillery Battalion, which will be held in Cody starting today (Thursday, Sept. 4) through Sunday, Sept. 7.
Lovell Korean War veteran Wes Meeker said the Lovell area will be well represented at the dedication, as many local veterans will be attending the reunion.
“We’ll all be there, the ones who are still around,” Meeker said.
During the war, the 300th Armored Field Artillery Battalion included Service Battery in Lovell, A Battery in Thermopolis, B Battery in Cody, C Battery in Worland and Headquarters Battery in Sheridan, Meeker said.
The Wyoming Veterans Park is located on the U.S. 14-16-20 entry to Cody just west of Yellowstone Regional Airport. The monument contains the names of 60 Wyoming vets who were killed during the Korean War between 1950 and 1953. |
