“Bulldogs, the Prime Candidates” is the theme of the 2008 Lovell High School Homecoming celebration being held this week, culminating with the Friday night football contest featuring the Lovell Bulldogs and the Greybull Buffaloes.

According to LHS Student Body Secretary Danielle Peck, Homecoming Week features several theme days to boost school spirit, with three days already completed.

Thursday is “Blue/White Day” highlighted by the annual Chili and Scones Dinner, sponsored by the senior class, the spirit walk and the Homecoming pep rally.

The day will begin with a “Breakfast for Champions” prepared by the LDS Seminary students under the guidance of former longtime LHS English teacher and now seminary teacher Josephine Crosby. All high school students and staff are invited to enjoy the free breakfast from 7 to 7:45 a.m. in front of the seminary building.

The LHS cross country team will compete in the Rocky Mountain Invitational Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Foster Gulch Golf Course.

Crosby has also been welcomed back to lead the annual Chili and Scones Dinner, which will be served from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the elementary school lunchroom. All students involved in activities are invited to eat for free. Others will pay $5 for adults and $3 for ages 6-12, with kids under 6 free.

All proceeds will go to the senior class. Everyone in the community is welcome, she said.

At around 6:30 p.m., elementary and high school students will walk together to the pep rally and bonfire, which will begin at 7 p.m.

The pep rally will feature games and challenges among the four classes, who will vie for the spirit cup. Fall teams will be introduced, and the 2008 Homecoming royalty will be announced and crowned.

A bonfire will follow the pep rally at the baseball field parking lot.

There is no school on Friday, and the big event will be the football game between the Lovell Bulldogs and the Greybull Buffaloes at 7 p.m. at Kevin P. Robertson Memorial Stadium. The royalty will be introduced at halftime.

Prior to the game, the Lovell FFA is sponsoring a Fireman’s Rib Dinner at 5 p.m. near the LHS Winterholler Gym. Tickets are $10 each.

The Homecoming dance will follow the football game at 10:30 p.m. in the LHS Winterholler Gym lobby with music provided by Bret Savage as Daddy-0 DJ.
