Roy Flahaut, 84, of Pocatello, died Thursday evening, June 25, 2009, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born July 22, 1924, in Dawson, N.M., to Ernest and Mabelle Payne Flahaut. Roy graduated from high school in Oklahoma and is a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army-Calvary in the Philippines and in Japan, receiving the Bronze Star for his service.
He married Irene Zulevic and she preceded him in death on October 26, 2003.
He worked in Oklahoma and Arkansas in the coal mines with his father and also traveled working on oil rigs for many years. Roy retired from Georgia-Pacific in Wyoming in 1989. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, collecting rocks in the hills of Wyoming with his wife, Irene, and all outdoor activities. He and Irene enjoyed square dancing with a group while living in California.
Roy is survived by a son, Rodney (Marianne) Flahaut of Pocatello; five grandchildren, Shane (Kim) Flahaut of Mountain Home, Idaho; Kathryn (Bradley) Sutton, Dana (Doug) Haskett, Kyle (Jonna) Flahaut and Erika Flahaut all of Pocatello and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Irene.
Memorial services will be held today (Thursday), July 2, at 11 a.m. in the Cornelison Funeral Chapel, located at 431 North 15th Ave., in Pocatello. Bishop Rod Flahaut will be officiating with military rites by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard.
