Funeral services were held Monday, June 29, at 10 a.m. at the Union Presbyterian Church in Powell for long-time Whistle Creek resident, Eva Flona (Losey) Yonts, 94, who died Monday, June 22, 2009, at the Powell Valley Care Center.
Yonts was born Oct. 8, 1914, in Phillips County, Kan., to Ezra Bernard Losey and Anna Eliza (Bradley) Losey. She was raised in Kansas and educated in the Holcomb County Kansas school system.
She married Harold Robert Yonts on July 3, 1934, in Garden City, Kan. In 1934, the couple homesteaded in the Whistle Creek community southeast of Powell where they resided for more than 60 years. After the loss of her husband in 1998, she spent time with family at the homestead and later in Casper. In April of 2004 she moved into the Powell Valley Care Center.
She was an example of the classic country homemaker. In addition to raising her family, she spent time gardening, canning and tending to many animals. During her years on the homestead she was also active in the Whistle Creek community. Eva wrote a column about Whistle Creek news for the Powell Tribune and the Lovell Chronicle. She also busied herself by staying active in the Whistle Creek Women’s Club, Farmers Union, Naomi Rebekah Lodge No. 36, and the Whistle Creek Community Church under the direction of Rev. Stanley Evans and later by Rev. Ray Nott.
Survivors include four sons, Robert (Barb) Yonts of Casper, Larry Yonts of Powell, Dean (Kathy) Yonts of Scottsbluff, Neb., and Delmer (Peggy) Yonts of Grant-Valkaria, Fla.; one daughter, Linda (Gary) Pangburn of Greybull; nine grandchildren, Clinton (Tami) and Calvin (Brenda) Yonts of Midland, Texas, Lucinda Pope of Levelland, Texas, Craig Yonts of Casper, Ty Pangburn of Longmont, Colo., Travis Yonts of Omaha, Neb., Marissa Yonts of Scottsbluff, Neb., Dylan Yonts and Hillery (Craig) Masterton of Grant-Valkaria, Fla.; eight great-grandchildren, Chris (Amy) Yonts, Kylie Yonts, Korli Yonts, Cameron Yonts, Conner Yonts, Nick (Sheanna) Virden, Candace Pope and Colton Pope; four great-great grandchildren, Erabella and Precious Virden, Casen and Kenzie Yonts and many nieces and nephews.
