Dorothy Irene Burnham Winterholler

July 7, 1937 - July 28, 2015

Dorothy Irene Burnham Winterholler, 78, was born on July 7, 1937, to R. Rex and Ada Lowe Burnham in Lovell. She was the second child and first daughter in the family.

Dorothy grew up on a farm east of Lovell, near the Sand Draw. She lived her life as a country girl and loved being the daughter and wife of a farmer/rancher.  She attended Lovell schools and graduated from Lovell High School in 1955.

She married Charles N. Monk in the Salt Lake Temple on Dec. 16, 1954.  To this union four children were born, David, Janis, Diane and Renae.  They later divorced. Dorothy married Vic Winterholler in 1976.

Dorothy was active in the Lovell community.  She loved working at the Lovell Branch of the Big Horn County Library where she served people from many communities. She was employed there until her death. She volunteered at the New Horizons Care Center Gift Shop, was a member of the Lovell Woman’s Club and the Sagebrush Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She held offices and served faithfully in these organizations.  Her greatest service, however, was founded in her deep faith and testimony in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings in the church and touched the lives of many people.

Dorothy loved all those she recognized as family and tried to find ways to show them how important they were to her. She gloried in their accomplishments and supported them in their activities. Dorothy loved to travel. She was always ready to go with family and friends and could have her bags packed at a moment’s notice. She had a beautiful singing voice and sang with the ward choir and the Singing Mothers for many years. She was a talented seamstress, quilter, poet and loved to do hand-work, such as embroidery and crocheting.

She died July 28, 2015, in Lovell. She was preceded in death by her parents R. Rex Burnham and Ada Lowe Burnham, a brother, Rulon Rex Burnham, and husband Vic Winterholler.  She is survived by her children, David R. (Sherie) Monk, Jan (Stan) Asay, Diane (Richard) Busteed and Renae (Brad) Wolvington, a sister, Bernice (Ival) Despain, and a brother, Melvin (Jeannie) Burnham.  She has 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
