Homecoming continues at Lovell, Rocky

It’s already been a busy week at Lovell High School and Rocky Mountain High School as both are celebrating homecoming with a variety of activities, culminating with home football games this Friday, Oct. 11.“Kick the Cats” is the theme of the Lovell High School Homecoming celebration as the school looks forward to Friday’s game against the Thermopolis Bobcats.According to sponsor Cindy Asay, the fun started with Toga/Greek Day on Monday, capped by a powder puff football game at 7 p.m. Tuesday was Cowboy and Indian Day, Wednesday was Duck Dynasty Day and Thursday is Class Color Day. Freshmen wear red, sophomores orange, juniors black and seniors white.The cross country team will travel to Powell Thursday afternoon for the Powell Invitational, which begins at 3:30, while the volleyball team takes on the Rocky Mountain Lady Grizzlies in Cowley at 3, 4 and 5 p.m.The annual chilli and cinnamon rolls dinner will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lovell Elementary School lunchroom, followed by the spirit walk to the high school at 7:15. The pep rally begins at 7:30 p.m. at Winterholler Gym featuring games, cheers, introduction of teams and the class spirit competition games, which building upon participation in dress-up days during the week. Royalty will be crowned during the pep rally, which is followed by a bonfire at the practice field at around 8:30 p.m.Friday is Blue and White Day, culminating with the football game at 7 p.m. followed by the dance around 9:30. The royalty will be introduced at halftime of the football game. Bret Savage will provide music for the dance.Rocky Mountain“Hollywood Homecoming” is the theme of the Rocky Mountain High School homecoming celebration, student council advisor Lea Sorenson said.Monday was Opposite Gender Day, Tuesday was Celebrity Day, Wednesday was Class Color Day and Thursday is Brown and Gold Day. There is no school on Friday.Special events included a movie night Tuesday at 7:15 at the Great Hall (commons). The annual Homecoming Olympics were held Wednesday from 12:30 to 3:20 p.m. in the auxiliary gym.During the week the four classes have been competing for the spirit award through bulletin boards, chalk sidewalk art and banners, with the award to be presented Thursday during lunch.Sporting events include the cross country team competing in Powell Thursday afternoon and the volleyball team hosting Lovell Thursday for matches at 3, 4 and 5 p.m. Rocky and Lovell are joining forces with Minchow’s Food Court to promote attendance at Thursday’s volleyball match. The first 20 Rocky and/or Lovell students to attend and stay at the volleyball match will receive a free ice cream cone from the food court. Students must sit in the student section through the end of the match.The annual Navajo taco dinner will run from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the Great Hall followed by the pep rally and bonfire at 7:30. The pep rally includes cheering, skits, the introduction of fall sports teams, the pep band and the crowning of the homecoming royalty.Since there is no school Friday, there will be no homecoming parade to the elementary school, but some student leaders will go to the elementary school Wednesday at 10 a.m. to hand out sports cards and promote the homecoming events.The homecoming game will kick off at 7 p.m. Friday with the Grizzlies tackling the Cokeville Panthers.
