Johnathon Michael Cook

May 17, 1981 - Aug. 31, 2020

Johnathon Michael Cook, age 39 of Macomb, Ill., and formerly of Greybull, Wyo., died Monday, August 31, 2020 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Ill.

He was born May 17, 1981, in Rushville, Ill, the son of Michael Cook and Mary Dianne McGinnis Ward.

He is survived by his parents Michael (companion Penny Claypool) Cook of Mt. Sterling his mother Mary Dianne (husband Donnie) Ward of Rushville; his brother Joel McGinnis of Arizona; a paternal grandfather Ray Cook of Browning; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother Delores Cook Birdsell and maternal grandparents Ralph and Ann Lutrell McGinnis.

Johnathon graduated in 2001 from Greybull schools in Wyoming. He enjoyed Special Olympics and until his health started to deteriorate, liked to participate. He used to enjoy hunting with his father and passed his Hunter Safety Certification by himself at age 14. He greatly enjoyed family get-togethers, listening to family play music and sitting in and playing the drums. Johnathon was a gentle giant. He was never mean to anyone or even said anything mean to anyone in his whole life. He was easy going, liked to laugh, and had a good sense of humor.

He worked for the Greybull Recreation District with Bobby Hallcroft, who was also the teacher's aide in Johnathon’s school. Those years in Greybull were, without a doubt, the happiest times of his life. Those people truly were as close to him as any family member. After moving to Illinois in 2002, he joined the family of MOSAIC in Macomb and made many friends over the years. He is, and will be, greatly missed.

Cremation rites have been accorded and services will be announced at a later date. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials have been suggested to Beardstown Area Special Athletes (BASA). Condolences may be left online atwww.colwellmemorialhome.com or on Facebook at Colwell Memorial Home.
