Lucy Powell died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, in Loa, Utah. Lucy was born April 21, 1921, in Lovell to Cyrus Snell Robertson and Florence Burnham Robertson. She was one of five children: Roma, Marlo, Jean and LaVerne.[caption id="attachment_2392" align="alignright" width="206" caption="Lucy Robertson Powell"][/caption]Lucy graduated from Lovell High School in May of 1939. She said her school years were fun years. She had the honor of being junior prom queen.She received a teaching certificate from the University of Wyoming in 1942. She was teaching the fourth grade in the Lovell school system when her husband-to-be, Bill Powell, returned from World War II.Bill and Lucy were married on March 22, 1945. They were married 66 years. To this union were born Linda, Monte, John, Florence, Lila, Debra and Roger.After Bill was discharged from the military, they made their home in Lovell and owned and operated Bill Powell’s clothing store for 35 years. Lucy did all of the alterations for the store.Lucy was very talented in music and was ward organist in the Lovell First Ward for many years. Bill was a vocalist and she accompanied him whenever he sang. He sang and she played the piano for most of their grandchildren’s wedding receptions, funerals and other religious and community celebrations.Lucy is survived by five daughters, Grant and Linda Dayley from Mesa, Ariz.; Gary and Monte Laing from Loa, Utah; Jim and Florence Thomas from Kaysville, Utah; Robin and Lila May from Rock Springs and Mike and Debra Archibald from Kemmerer, a son, Roger and Vicki Powell, 35 grandchildren and 71 great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, a son, John, two grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.Funeral services will be held Dec. 21, 2011, at 11 a.m. in the Lovell LDS Stake Center. Viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. at the Stake Center.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
