Rocky Mountain FFA helps the community in many ways

This past year the Rocky Mountain FFA Chapter began, and finished, many activities. We started a community outreach program called “Adopt an Elder” where each FFA member chooses an elder in their community who needs help. Once a week, or whenever the member is able to, the member will go to the elder’s house and do whatever he or she needs done.The Recycling Committee has, in the last year, recycled more than 1,000 pounds of paper. We plan to expand the amount by each classroom having their own recycle bin for paper that the Recycling Committee collects and weighs. On Halloween they went door to door asking for cans from anyone who would be willing to donate. The members were dressed in their costumes and surprised community members when they asked for canned goods for FFA rather than candy. The FFA made popcorn balls to show that even if one didn’t donate we were still grateful for the community members in our area. All the food collected went to the Lovell Food Bank.The Community Service Committee also hosted a club competition for canned food. Each of the school clubs, FFA, FBLA, Art Club, and Student Council, participated. After competing one week the clubs managed to wrangle around 380 cans total. This amount will help families all around the community and we were very grateful for the opportunity to help. Again, all the cans collected went to the Lovell Food Bank.This year the Rocky Mountain FFA has 13 members, including their five officers. The officers are Jennifer Parker-President, TaiLyn Miller-Vice President, Alana Senn-Secretary, Sydney Tyacke-Reporter, and Samuel Brown-Treasurer. The members are Chace Brand, Lily Myers, Lindzy Thomas, Charles Kawano, Brittany McCollam, Dusten Bond, Tyler Lindquist, Jon Donal and Wes Homewood.RMHS FFA hosted the first-ever student-led Ag Expo last year. We are planning on hosting another one this spring. Most of the classes and demonstrations were taught by Rocky and Lovell students. Lots of hard work paid off in the end with a successful expo.Rocky Mountain FFA Week had a great turnout. Monday was Grow Day. We asked the school to wear green to show support for this year’s theme. Tuesday was Blue and Gold Day. FFA members wore their official dress and everyone else wore blue and gold. Wednesday was the day to support the March of Dimes. We all wore purple to show how we supported the work they are doing.At lunch there was an ice cream social. Each part of a sundae went along with an FFA trivia question. If you got the question wrong you didn’t get that part of the sundae, bowls and spoons included. Thursday was the day to come as your dream job. There were doctors, vets, nurses, presidents, secretaries, cosmetologists, and more. Friday was Keep it Classy. It was game day so everyone dressed up to show school spirit.By: Sydney Tyacke
