Special services offered for Holy Week, Easter

Christian churches in north Big Horn County will celebrate the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ this week and next with a variety of Holy Week services, culminating with Easter on Sunday, April 4.

At St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rev. Jacob Benson will lead a Palm Sunday service this Sunday, March 28, at 10:30 a.m. with children singing and carrying palm branches. During Holy Week, St. John’s will hold a Maundy Thursday communion service April 1 at 6 p.m. and a Good Friday service at noon on April 2.

Easter Sunday at St. John’s will feature a sunrise service with communion at 7 a.m., followed by breakfast at 8 and the main Easter communion service at 10:30 a.m.

Lovell United Methodist Church Pastor Janita Krayniak will lead a Palm Sunday service this Sunday at 9 a.m. with palm branches, a Maundy Thursday service April 1 at 5:30 p.m. and a Good Friday service April 2 at 5:30 p.m. There will be a prayer vigil on Holy Saturday, April 3, at 6 p.m. via Zoom.

Pastor Krayniak will lead an Easter Sunday resurrection service April 4 at 9 a.m. at the Lovell church.

The Deaver United Methodist Church will hold an Easter morning service at 9 a.m.

Father Glen Szczechowski will lead a variety of special services at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lovell for Holy Week. The schedule is as follows:

Palm Sunday: Mass at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.; Monday, March 29: Mass at 8 a.m.; Tuesday, March 30: Adoration at 4:30 p.m., Mass at 5:30 p.m.; Holy Thursday: Mass at 7 p.m.; Good Friday: Service at noon, Stations of the Cross at 6 p.m.; Holy Saturday: Vigil Mass at 8 p.m.; Easter Sunday: Mass at 11:30 a.m.

The Lovell Bible Church will present an Easter Cantata for Palm Sunday entitled “The Day He Wore My Crown” with solos by Teressa Ennis and Jim Upton this Sunday at 9 a.m. Pastor Kurt McNabb will lead an Easter service at 9 a.m. April 4 featuring special music and a message celebrating the events surrounding the resurrection of Christ. There will be no Sunday school on Easter.

Pastor Johannes Slabbert of Cowley’s Water of Life Church will hold an Easter Sunday sunrise service at Frog Rock on Road 5 in the Sand Hills between Cowley and Byron at a time to be determined. There will be singing, a short message and refreshments, including donuts and coffee. All are welcome.

Pastor Slabbert will then lead a regular Easter service at 10:30 a.m. at the Cowley Log Gym.

Pastor Dan Jarvis of the Lovell Assembly of God Church will lead an Easter Sunday service at 10:50 a.m. on April 4, and Church of God Pastor Gerald Cox will lead an Easter service at the Assembly of God building at 1 p.m.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will gather at the Lovell Stake Center this Saturday and Sunday, March 27-28, for the Stake Conference, with meetings beginning Saturday at 4 p.m. and for the general membership Sunday at 10 a.m.
Tickets are required, but the conference will also be available online.

General Conference will be held April 3-4 with sessions available online and on BYU-TV.
