Champs times two: LHS cheerleaders repeat to win state title

The Lovell cheerleaders did it again, and this time it wasn’t even close.
One year after edging Big Piney by .45 of a point – 76.650 to 76.200 -- to capture the championship in the Class 2A Game Day division of the Wyoming State Spirit competition, the Lovell High School cheerleaders repeated as champions Friday in Casper, this time topping second place Cokeville by four points – 88.850 to 84.800.
Coach Nicole Hendershot said it was a thrill to repeat as a state champion, noting that the team put together an outstanding performance.

Midway Construction approved for park project

Midway Construction and Dirt Work of Lovell will be the general contractor on Phase II of the Constitution Park Project, the Lovell Town Council decided Tuesday during a noon special meeting.

Dalton Banks looking forward to second session in the House

Dalton Banks, District 26 representative in the Wyoming House of Representatives, is heading into his second legislative session during his first term in office, the budget session of the 67th Legislature.
Banks said his main focuses are a balanced budget, education and mental health services.
Banks said that he is feeling more prepared for this legislative session after going through his first session last year.

Library offers fun events for every age

This month, the Lovell library has kicked off its inaugural Lego Club for kids and continued its Stitch Happens craft group, among other events.
Assistant manager librarian Linda Mangus said that Lego Club was created as a new opportunity for local kids, and will continue to be offered on the third Friday of every month at 3 p.m., with the first event kicked off January 19.

Bobbi Barrasso, wife of Wyoming Sen. John Barrasso, dies

CHEYENNE  — Bobbi Barrasso, wife of U.S. Sen. John Barrasso, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, after a two-year battle with glioblastoma brain cancer. She was 70.
John Barrasso, R-Wyo., on Thursday released the following statement: “After a courageous battle with cancer, Bobbi is now at peace and at home with the Lord. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Bobbi was a leader, fierce advocate for Wyoming and friend to everyone she met. We miss her dearly.

Police Report Muskrat evades trap at Town Hall

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of January 22 to January 28:
January 22: 4:23 p.m.- A Town of Lovell employee reported a muskrat out near Town Hall. Game and fish were called, and they set up a trap. The muskrat was not caught.
7:20 p.m.- A domestic dispute occurred on Carmon Avenue. A child called 911 and screaming was heard in the background before the phone hung up.

Sheriff’s report: Dogs wander free in Byron

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Department received the following calls for the week of January 22 to January 28:
January 22: 7:46 a.m.- A deer collided with a vehicle on Highway 32 and Lane 13 near Lovell. There were no human injuries, but the deer was dead.
January 24: 9:55 a.m.- A lost dog was reported on North Big Horn St. in Byron. The dog was not confirmed to have been located.
January 25: 6:29 p.m.- A car hit a deer at Good 2 Go on Highway 310 near Lovell. No injuries occurred and the case was referred to highway patrol.

Scammers target local convenience stores

Scammers who targeted two Big Horn County convenience stores in the past month might have been successful had it not been for the actions of law enforcement officials at both ends of the county.
In a Facebook post, the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office alerted the public to the scam.  While it did not name the businesses, Sheriff Ken Blackburn identified them as the Country Store in Lovell, which was targeted a few weeks ago, and the Maverik store in Greybull, on Wednesday, Jan. 24.

Golf board member Winland reports successful 2023

The Foster Gulch Golf Course is enjoying good times and has some big plans in the works, board president Tim Winland reported to the Lovell Area Chamber of Commerce membership at the January 15 luncheon.
