Some sports pundits on an ESPN morning radio show I listen to daily made an interesting point the other day, one in which I wholeheartedly agree.
The program hosts were lamenting the tendency in our society to justify a negative opinion by rooting against their home team, just to “prove” that they were right.

Following the release of Governor Gordon’s vetoes on bills passed during the 2024 Budget Session, we have read requests from certain members of the Legislature to convene a special session. As the presiding officers of the 67th Legislature, we are also disappointed in the Governor’s liberal use of his veto authority and tone of his veto messages. However, a special session is unlikely to effectively address the Governor’s vetoes.

Newspapers from coast to coast last week celebrated Sunshine Week, a time to champion openness and transparency in government in issues from access to public records to open meetings.
Ironically, Sunshine Week 2024 happened to coincide with an example of transparency worth celebrating right here in our neck of the woods.
Thursday night, Big Horn County School District No. 2 held a public forum during which citizens were able to question three finalists to be the next principal of Lovell Elementary School.

For most people, the happiness felt on Christmas morning makes it the most wonderful time of the year.
For me, the upcoming weeks potentially trump the holiday season with NCAA March Madness post-season basketball.
I love it.
The favorites. The underdogs. The upsets. The overtime thrillers. The buzzer beaters. The bracket busters. The Cinderella stories.
It brings a smile to my face as I anxiously await the first game’s tip-off that happens this morning.

What Is an American?

It is tempting to say that a debate is raging in the United States on the question of what it means to be an American. Tempting to say—but not true—because little debate is actually occurring.
In this presidential year, both parties’ leading candidates have refused to debate their rivals and may well refuse to debate each other. And as we’ve seen with so-called debates in the past few election cycles, what is labeled a “debate” has deteriorated into something more like a “battle rap” — without the musical or poetic talent.
