Bandit seniors lose to Worland
Major, minor players gear up for postseason tournaments
The South Big Horn Little League Bandits plated four runs in the bottom of the seventh but it wasn’t enough in an 11-7 loss to Worland Saturday evening at the Art Schutte Sports Compex in Greybull.
The senior-level contest was the second of the season between the two clubs, who pitched and fielded better than they did in a May 17 game in Worland. Fifty runs were scored in that one, with the Bandits prevailing 32-18.
Worland drew even in the season series by plating two runs in the first, second and fourth innings to build a 6-0 lead
The Bandits cut that lead in half with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, as Mattix Myers, Shawn August and Kayson Herebia all drew based-loaded walks to force in runs, but Worland regained the momentum with five in the top of the sixth to go up 11-3.
The Bandits closed the gap with four in the seventh. Marshall Brown, Jack Olmstead and Brendyn DeShazer had run-scoring singles and, like he did in the fifth, August’s patience at the plate was rewarded with a bases-loaded walk.
The seniors fell to 1-4 with the loss.
Majors & Minors
For the majors and minors, the focus is now on the getting ready for their postseason all-star tournaments.
The Bandits plan to enter teams in the annual Lovell interleague tournament June 17-21 as well as the Buffalo Bill tournament June 27-29 in Cody before hosting their district tournament the first week in July.
Last week provided a much-needed respite for the majors, who were off all week.
The minors teams played a doubleheader Wednesday evening in Powell. Curtis Johnson’s team lost 11-5 and Edgar Hernandez’s team lost 10-9. Each team was credited with just a single hit — Evan Winkler provided it for Team Johnson, Jordyn Stamstad for Team Hernandez.
This week
Both all-star teams will be in action today (Thursday, June 12) at the Art Schutte Sports Complex in Greybull. Thermopolis will be the opponent. The minors game starts at 5:30 p.m., the majors game at 7 p.m.
