David Eyre Barrett
Oct. 15, 1974 – March 31, 2026
David Eyre Barrett, 51, passed away on March 31, 2026.
David was born on October 15, 1974, in Powell to Genevieve (Eyre) Barrett and David Oscar Barrett. He spent much of his childhood in Cowley, where he developed a love for the outdoors, building forts, exploring and enjoying time on his grandparents’ farm.
At a young age, David showed a strong sense of independence, choosing to ride the school bus on his very first day of kindergarten. Throughout his youth, David lived in both Wyoming and California, attending school in Redondo Beach, Hawthorne and Lawndale before ultimately graduating from Rocky Mountain High School with the Class of 1993. After high school, David attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho.
He later returned to Cowley, where he began working for S&L Industrial, traveling with the sign crew for several years before taking a position with American Colloid. David married Susan Jolley and was a devoted father to her five children, Alex, Quintton, Gabrielle, Vanessa and Arrianna Timmons. Together, they welcomed two sons, Gatlin David Barrett and Remington Jaymes Barrett, who became the center of his world. David worked hard to provide for his family and was deeply committed to raising them.
Known for his outgoing personality and ability to connect with others, David found success in car sales, working for Midway Motors and later in St. George, Utah. David pursued a nursing degree, attending Dixie State University, and later earned his bachelor’s degree in Cedar City, Utah.
David went on to serve as a travel nurse, eventually settling in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he worked in the emergency room at Desert Springs Hospital. He was passionate about helping others and dedicated himself to caring for those in critical need. During the October 1, 2017, mass shooting in Las Vegas, David had just completed his shift when victims began arriving at the hospital. He returned to work for another 12 hours.
In 2017, David founded “Five Dollars for Change,” a nonprofit organization focused on supporting homeless children by providing food, clothing and essential supplies. His generosity and kindness made a lasting impact on many lives.
David later spent time in Houston, Texas, before moving his sons to Wyoming, where they would be close to family. Though he continued working in Las Vegas, he remained devoted to his boys, traveling frequently to spend time with them. He continued his work in emergency care, including serving at West Henderson Hospital.
David had a love for music and enjoyed singing and country swing dancing. He cherished time with his family and found joy in traveling and creating lasting memories.
He will be remembered for his kind heart, his humor and his unwavering willingness to help others.
He was preceded in death by his father, David Oscar Barrett, and bonus daughter, Gabrielle (Timmons) Cross.
David is survived by his sons, Gatlin David Barrett and Remington Jaymes Barrett; mother Genevieve Mann; siblings Heather (John) Mickelson, Mindy (Skye) Mickelson, Amber (Tony) James, Autumn (Chris) Stephens, Randall (Brooke) Mann, Lane (Lindsay) Mann and Micah Mann; and bonus children Alex, Quintton, Vanessa and Arrianna Timmons, along with many nieces, nephews and bonus grandchildren.
David’s life was marked by service, resilience and love for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
His funeral will be held Saturday, May 23, at 11 a.m. in the Cowley LDS Church.
