Grizzlies wrap up regular season at Thermopolis
The Rocky Mountain Grizzlies capped the regular meet schedule for the 2025 season with some solid performances at the Bobcat Invitational in Thermopolis Friday, the final meet before this week’s regional track meet.
The meet was a big one, with some 24 teams attending from western Wyoming.
The Grizz set a number of personal records Friday led by junior Will Watts, who placed third out of 80 runners in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.52, a PR by 2/10ths of a second and just 4/100ths of a second behind second-place Douglas Anderson of Saratoga.
Also strong for the Grizz was senior Hudson May, who placed fourth in the 800 meters in 2:06.01, just 1/10th of a second off his season best.
Junior Jacoby Wachob tied his personal record in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet to finish in a tie for 12th, and senior Hayden Wambeke finished 12th in the shot put with a throw of 38-7½.
The Lady Grizz excelled in the pole vault. Senior Tarynn Schoening placed fourth, clearing 8 feet, and junior Keylee Christiansen placed 7-6, each competitor one notch off her personal record.
The team of Kennedy Brimhall, Kamryn Welling, Bailey Gifford and Leah Haslem placed seventh in the 1,600-meter sprint medley relay in a time of 5:16.56.
Haslem almost placed in the 1,600, finishing 10th in a time of 6:26.51.
Head coach Tobee Christiansen said last week that the team might taper a bit with Regionals and State coming up, and that appeared to be the case as the Grizz did not have the usual complement of competing athletes in a variety of events.
